Before the events of this summer, England and Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham was widely regarded as the frontrunner for the 2024 Ballon d’Or. However, the 21-year-old’s performances in the European Championship have significantly diminished his prospects of clinching the prestigious award.

The Real Madrid star’s presence was only occasionally noticeable, with his significant contributions being few and far between, such as his late goal against Slovakia. Even in that match, he remained mostly invisible to the audience up until his spectacular overhead kick, which played a crucial role in ensuring England’s continued participation in Germany.

Beyond these fleeting moments, Bellingham found himself overshadowed in the midfield by the exceptional performance of Declan Rice. In the attacking front, it was Bukayo Saka who stole the spotlight, despite the fact that Bellingham was intended to be the key player, leading The Three Lions in their quest to bolster his Ballon d’Or prospects.

Bellingham’s inability to enthrall the audience has significantly jeopardized his prospects of securing the Ballon d’Or. The award voters are now highly unlikely to deem his performance compelling or impressive enough to bestow upon him the prestigious accolade.
